Project Overview
Client’s secure basement location was used for the new comms, UPS and switch room application. However, this meant challenges in the design and build of a suitable cooling solution whilst maintaining humidity control and ventilation.
Traditional close control equipment could not be used due to access, room size and external plant space restrictions. The client’s programme limitations and end date for systems going live meant that materials had to be easily obtainable (ie: within stock).

Project Details
Server Room
Supply, installation and commissioning of 12No Daikin FAQ100B wall mounted units within the server room with refrigeration services connecting between the internal fan coil and corresponding external Daikin RZQ100B9W1 condensing units (providing N+1 resilience).
UPS Room and Switch Room
Supply, installation and commissioning of 3No Daikin FAQ71B wall mounted units within the UPS room with refrigeration services connecting between the internal fan coil and corresponding external Daikin RZQ71B9W1 condensing units which are located within their designated roof location (providing N+1 resilience).
Cooling System Controls Fault Indication of 3rd Party Humidity Control Equipment
The Daikin DCS601C51 I touch controller was used and connected to the client’s computer network allowing remote control and monitoring of the air conditioning system over the web with the ability to send email alerts. Additional interface cards were installed allowing 3rd party humidifiers to be monitored.
Project Description
Humidity Control
The Daikin systems selected have an EPC (electronic data processing) setting, allowing operation when RH is as low as 30%. To ensure the room did not exceed the minimum 30%RH, N+1 humidifier control was also installed using equipment from JS Humidifiers. Due to the limitations within the space, a bespoke ducted type system was designed to meet the design conditions.
Ventilation
Supply, installation and commissioning of fresh air and extract ventilation system to combine the comms room and adjacent UPS room. The system provided the required air change rate during normal operation with fire shutdown and room sealed to allow the fire suppressant system to work (via a fireman’s switch, the system is reactivated to remove the fire suppressant).
Water Leak Detection
Supply, installation and commissioning of Aquilar multi zone alarm water leak detection system complete with control panel and sensors to detect from the following areas:
– Each cooling system
– Underfloor detection at egress points
– Below the humidification systems
Drip trays to each of the indoor cooling systems and humidifier systems fitted with water leak detection. As with the Daikin centralised control system, this also has web access via an Aquitron ethernet interface controller for remote monitoring.
External Plant Deck Area
New steel supports and plant deck area to accommodate the external condensing unit equipment whilst maintaining safe access for both installation and future service and maintenance.
